SEARCHING ONLINE

Searching online is not difficult, but it sometimes requires a little practice. A few hints can be helpful, too, so here are some basics.

USE SPECIFIC WORDS (KEYWORDS) & PHRASES (KEY PHRASES)

Your search terms, called a query or a keyword, can be one word - which will return many, many millions of results - or a string of words, called a search string or search phrase. The more specific your search, the more specific your results.

USE SUBJECT MATTER SEARCH QUERIES

By using subject matter focused serach queries, your results will more readily address the precise item you are seeking.

For example, if you are searching for Criminal Defense Lawyers or Criminal Defense Law Firms in Madison, Wisconsin, by beginning that search with the subject matter, "criminal defense lawyers", adding the city, "Madison", and then the state, "Wisconsin", your search will be more precise than if you begin the search with the city. This is so because of the way in which search engines operate.
